Either on my side or perhaps even on the side of the studio engineer that sent the rough track. My first thought is that perhaps I am missing some setting somewhere that is labeling it with some sort of DRM automatically where it should not. That makes me think there are a few potential reasons but no searches have discussed this particular issue that I have been able to find. The song is clearly on my IPad so ITunes must therefore consider it "protected" in some manner but this is a rough version of basic tracks - not anything sold commercially at this point - so why would it be "protected?" Regardless of the format, I get a " Protected songs and songs not stored locally on you IPad can not be imported" message. Using my G5, I synched the track using Itunes into my Ipad2. How I wanted to do this was to import the track onto my Ipad and play around with it using Garage Band so as to try different things on different tracks to see what works best. I have been given a studio MP3 by an artist and my task is very simple - take this rough track and work out a guitar part. Here is what I am trying to do in Garage Band. **Note this is NOT a discussion about how to unlock commercially available music files with DRM.
